Who is Pastor Mark Turner?
|
Who is Mark? By God's grace, Mark was born to Christian parents who taught him from a very young age about God’s wonderful grace offered to us through His Son, Jesus Christ. Because of their training and prayers, Mark responded to God’s grace when he was six years old. God used Mark’s future wife, to help him fully understand what it meant to serve Jesus Christ. She did not listen to secular music, but chose only to listen to music that glorified and praised God. Her firm stand so impacted Mark that he was forced to examine his relationship with Jesus Christ. As Mark studied God’s Word, he realized that because of what Christ did for him, he was called to turn over every aspect of his life to serve Christ. After his marriage in 1985, both he and his wife were quite active in youth ministry within a local bible church. During that time they dreamed and prayed about working in full-time Christian service in 15-20 years. In December of 1991, a former pastor visited him at his business office (he ran a software company) and asked him to come serve as his youth director. After he and his wife spent a week intensively praying and seeking the guidance of the Elders, he accepted the position, believing that it was the Lord’s direction for his life, albeit in a completely different timetable than he had ever expected. The first two years spent ministering to teens and families confirmed God’s calling upon his life to serve Christ in ministry. In 1994 he went to Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando, FL. After graduating in 1997, he accepted a call as the Assistant Pastor at Armor Bible Presbyterian Church in Orchard Park, NY. In 2004, he completed his certification as a Level II member of the National Association of Nouthetic Counselors. In February of 2005 Oakbrook Community Church (PCA) voted to call Mark as their pastor. On July 3rd, 2005 was officially installed as Oakbrook’s new pastor.
Mark and his wife, Shari have been married for over 24 years. Having grown up in the South (Northwest Florida) they are enjoying the opportunity to serve Jesus Christ in the South again. They have four wonderful children, Michael (20), Lauren (20), Toby (15) and Savannah (14) plus 3 dogs: Lacy (English Springer Spaniel), Olvia (Poma-Poo), and Jackson (Minature Pinscher).
