Oakbrook Community Church (PCA)

We are a body that believes:

  • God’s Word alone is our ultimate authority(Jn 17:17)
  • God is sovereign over all, that is, He reigns over all things meticulously determining all that comes to pass (Eph 1:11)
  • In a Christ-centered proclamation of the Gospel: that salvation is wholly of God, by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone as revealed in Scripture alone to the glory of God alone

1- God made us with the ability to know, worship and obey Him.

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. Gen 1:27 So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God 1 Cor 10:31

2 - Mankind disobeyed and turned away from God - this is called SIN.

You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree... she took some of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate. Then the eyes of both were opened...  Genesis 3:2-20 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way... Isa 53:6 For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Rom 3:23

3 - Sin has led to a separation from God. We are under His judgment.

but your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear. — Isa 59:2 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth.— Rom 1:18

4 - God's provision for salvation is Christ, who perfectly obeyed & died for our sins.

She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins. Mat 1:21 He committed no sin... He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live for righteousness. 1 Pet 22-24 But God shows his love for us that while we were still sinners, Christ died for  us. Rom 5:8

5 - Our Situation is such that self-salvation is impossible!

All our righteous deeds are like a polluted garment... and our iniquities, like the wind take us away — Isa 64:6 For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight — Rom 3:20

6 - Salvation is available only through Christ and His work on the cross.

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me — Jn 14:6  I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture — Jn 10:9

7 - To be saved we must turn from our sin and trust in Christ alone as our Savior

“The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.” — Mk 1:15 Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out,— Ac 3:19  “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life— Jn 3:16  1 Jn 1:9; Rom 5:1; Jn 3:36; 6:47

8 - The Great Exchange!

The Good News of the Gospel is summarized in the Great Exchange! Confess to God that you have sinned and disobeyed His commands. Believe that He sent Jesus to die for your sins and that His perfect obedience is now counted to your record: 2 Co 5:21For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
